Mmm...D-day!

This week at work we celebrated D-food-day. (If this makes no sense, refer to my earlier post.) We had deli food galor. Deviled eggs. Dirt pudding. In all of my creative efforts the only food I could think to bring in was donuts. Which isn't all bad.

I was inhaling a donut on my way out of work that night and my thoughts were quickly taken back to my senior year of college. Every Friday I could count on two things. (1) A ridiculously exhausting exam and (2) donuts. One of our professors would bring in donuts every Friday morning to help us through our early morning study sessions. Talk about motivation to get to school early! I loved the jelly filled ones. The twisty ones. The apple fritter ones. The only way to guarantee the best of the lot was to get there before anyone else did. I would arrive early, grab my donut, and head to our study room.

Now something amazing happened because of this. (Gaining weight was actually not it. Thankfully, I burned off those calories just walking from the bus stop to campus.) I found myself at school with several hours to study before the test. Consequently, I found myself getting really good grades because of all of that extra study time!

So basically the only reason I graduated was because of donuts.

Why these really are my favorite flowers...

I saw the first of these beauties blooming yesterday. Which can only mean 2 things:

(1) We have nearly made it through another Utah winter (and are, as my b.i.l. pointed out, officially in the season of Sprinter)

and

(2) We are approaching the time when I'll find out if the ones I planted last fall survived the winter. Daffodils are supposedly deer-proof. The deer obliterated my pansies the night that I planted them so I have wondered for several months now whether or not my bulbs met the same demise. I'm crossing my fingers...

P.S. This is officially my 100th post. Whew!

Simplify.

Awhile ago S and I decided to start cutting back some "un-necessities" in our already hectic life.

We have drastically cut back on sending text messages, figuring if it is really important, someone will call us.

And we got rid of our satellite television and opted for Netflix (which, in itself, is pretty awesome.) This one was a lot harder for me than the texting. I had grown to accept the DVR as an additional family member. Always there. Always reliable.

But something amazing has happened since we made these changes a few months ago. I feel more freedom. I rarely even watch television anymore and when I do, it's on the internet (for free!) I did not realize how much time of my day was spent watching t.v. Now I spend more time reading, sewing, working, contemplating. And playing with Bean.

Anyway, today for lunch I went to pull up Hannah Montana (a show that both Bean and I can be entertained by) only to realize that Netflix wasn't working. Which is how we came to watch the Lawrence Welk show on PBS. I believe Bean is now their youngest fan. She shoveled bits of her pb&j into her mouth while rocking back and forth to the [admittedly] catchy tune.

It looks like we may have found a new additional family member...
