Today is our tenth wedding anniversary.
I've spent a lot of time reflecting over the last 10 years of our married lives and it is crazy to think of all that's happened in 10 years.
2 kids
2 college degrees
5 jobs
5 moves
5 pets
20 birthdays
At least 100 holidays
Dozens of vacations (close-by and far-away)
Countless "I Love You"s
I could keep going...
10 feels like the biggest milestone since our first anniversary. I think our first anniversary we were so amazed that we made it through that first year. It is actually still one of my favorite anniversaries. I was still in school. S was working a minimum wage job just trying to get me through school and we were Dirt Poor. He surprised me with a coupon for a pedicure (which I sadly never used because, well, it's a long story, but basically my toenails kept falling off...) which at that time was a huge luxury. We decided to go up to the Gateway and get food from Hot Dog on a Stick. (My favorite. Not joking.) We just walked around afterwards and were so happy. I will never forget it.
Our fifth anniversary was exciting because S had just started the fire academy. We had gotten back from a weekender in San Francisco and I was busy at work getting ready to transfer our department to the new hospital so I didn't expect a lot, but S came home from work, told me to dress up, and took me to The Garden at Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Again, we were so busy with our individual lives but we just sat there eating dinner, talking and laughing as if there was nothing else going on. I will never forget that one either.
I was looking through our wedding album to load these pictures and laughing to myself on how much we have changed appearance wise. (We look so young!) I think inwardly we have changed even more. I am definately more confident and I think I've taught S a thing or two about patience (the kids might have had a hand in that one as well.) But I know I am definately better. And all that matters when you marry someone is that they will make you a better person.
Here's to the next ten!
I love you babe. Happy Anniversary.
