Boy Got Glasses
Back in August Boy had a routine eye check at which time they found he was actually showing progressive amblyopia in his right eye. It's something they knew about--thus the routine check-ups. But what was supposed to be a 20-minute-tops appointment stretched into almost 3 hours. And I had Bean with me too. They were SO good though. The doctor and his staff kept apologizing and acknowledging just how good they were being.
We ordered Boy's glasses and they finally arrived the first part of September. My mom said it best. It was like the glasses finally captures his little personality.
And as if that couldn't be a big enough change, later that week we decided it was time to ditch the diaper. I don't know if I was cringing remembering the process with Bean or that I've heard that boys are so much harder, but I was dreading it. Really. But Boy surprised us all and caught on really quickly. He was 6 months older than Bean was when we tried with her. I think that helped alot. Plus, he really, really didn't like the feeling of wet underwear. I think that helped more.
So we sent Boy back to school after the Labor Day weekend break. He was a whole new man!
Color Run
For the PTA fundraiser this year they did a color run. I did not want to participate. But it was all Bean could talk about in the weeks leading up to it. Plus, they sent her home from school with a brand new headband, T-shirt, and tattoos. So I pretty much knew we weren't getting out of it.
It turns out her little bestie's mom felt the same way I did, ha!
Naturally, as soon as the race started, Bean freaked out. So while we (Bean's friend's mom and her kids and I and Boy and another friend's mom) weren't planning on running the race, we ended up walking the first third with the girls. Then as soon as they were comfortable we ditched them and waited at the finish line.
After everyone had returned, it was time to open the color packets. Boy was horrified.
But he got over it pretty quickly.
Bean had a blast!
And Boy ended up looking like the tin man.
A 95% Completed Basement
Two days after the color run was when my mom fell ill. Needless to say we were grasping anything good that we could find in our lives. Having carpet installed in our basement at the end of September ended up being one of those things. I don't know if it was the timing or what, but having our basement finished to the point that we could actually go down and use it has been one of the best things in my life.
