With a kid this cute, how can I not share?

My brother came into town from AZ last week to sing in a concert of at Temple Square. It was awesome! While he and his wife were here, they came over to my parents where we were all able to visit. And they were able to meet Bean for the first time! He took these great pictures of our li'l kiddo...

It amazes me how often we catch pictures of her during her meals. What can I say, the girl likes to eat!

Storytime with Grandma.

And playing with Grandpa.

And my absolute favorite picture. Possibly ever.

On being nearly debt-free, living next to the rodeo grounds, and why I don't answer my phone unless I recognize the number.

Six years ago I bought one of these brand new:

and two years ago we paid it off.

Four years ago S bought one of these brand new:

and this week we paid it off!

(these are not pictures of our actual vehicles but they are pretty darn close)

It took a lot of hard work and dedication but it feels so good to be nearly debt-free. I don't know that we'll get our house paid off in 4 years...but maybe 12? How awesome would that be?!

We figured that we have had car payments for 8 of the 9 years of our marriage. Get used to seeing us drive these around because we probably will until their wheels fall off.

We realized that we were moving awfully close to the rodeo grounds in our city when we bought our house a year ago. But by the time we moved in, all of the rodeos were done for the season. This weekend marked the beginning of the new season...and by-golly that place is loud!

It shouldn't surprise me too much. I grew up going to the family cabin which is only a few miles from the world famous Oakley rodeo. It became a welcome guest on those warm summer evenings. We could always tell when a cowboy was staying aloft a bucking bronco because the crowd would roar and the commentator would get very excited.

I have to say that I am excited myself to be within walking distance and expect that S, Bean and I will venture down there one of these evenings. In the meantime (on the evenings that the rodeo spans into our bedtime,) I am grateful that Bean's room is in the back of the house and I will invest in a good pair of earplugs.

Did I mention that they occasionally do fireworks? That will be awesome!

I remember S bringing home 2 new cell phones (this is probably 6-7 years ago) and I laughed as I chose the easier number of the two. I have been paying for it ever since. It turns out my phone number is only one digit off of a dentist's office.

At first I answered every call faithfully but when 4 out of 5 (and I wish I were exaggerating) left me saying I'm sorry, you have the wrong number I gave up and stopped answering my phone anytime I didn't recognize the number.

Every once in awhile I will cave and answer it, but I'm not as polite as I once was. I usually reply to their uh, is this a dentist's office with nope, wrong number. After I hung up I usually mutter something under my breath.

The best is when they actually LEAVE a message. Such was the case this week:

Um, yes I need to make an appointment for my kids to see the dentist. Will you please call me back as soon as possible? My name is such and such and this is my number.

Did you not hear the "Hi, this is Emily, leave me a message and I will get back to you?" Doesn't exactly sound like an office greeting. Mutter.

My favorite message by far is still when this lady called me:

Hi this is so and so. I need to make an appointment to see the dentist as quickly as possible...

And then a few hours later she called again:

Hi this is so and so again. Can you please call me back? I really need to see the dentist. I am in a lot of pain.

Okay, I admit I did feel a little bad about that one. But what would have happened if I'd tried to call her back and explain the mistake? She probably would have thought that I was the dentist and tried to make an appointment with me!

At least the majority of people figure out their error and hang up when they hear the greeting. And if you really do want to talk to Emily, all you have to do is leave a message and I will save your number to my contacts.

S thought maybe this was a revelation of sorts that my true calling in life is to be a dentist. Or at the very least, a receptionist.
